If you've arrived here, you'll probably have seen some of my writing on Myanmar or have come from my Twitter account, or my LinkedIn or received an e-mail or something. You know then that I used to be an international civil servant and I'm not anymore. I didnt have the opportunity to write what I care about and publish it. Now I have as you can see from the flurry of Op-eds I've done since the Myanmar coup. I have set up this website in part to create this blog - which allows me to share thoughts or information I can't in my articles. (The other reason is of course that I am a self-employed consultant now and need to advertise my services). My first project for this blog will be what I call my "acronym salad for the Myanmar coup" - a register of sorts giving some background on actors, institutions, policies that have sprung up in Myanmar's fast-changing political and military landscape. I hope this will be useful for journalists not specialized but covering Myanmar on and off or (more off lately unfortunately) or covering the region, regional organizations, NGOs, and for all others looking for a quick reference on #whatshappeninginMyanmar but can't afford to obsess about Myanmar news and Twitter all day (sigh). Expect that in a series of posts starting in the next few days.
So, as you see, this blog will likely be Myanmar-focused for a while to come. Beyond that we'll see. Thanks, and stay safe.
